Riddle 111

In meadows deep where shadows play,

A creature swift, yet still, at bay.

Its ears like sails upon the breeze,

In burrows hidden, secrets seize.

With cotton tail and nimble feet,

It bounds through fields, its joy replete.

Its whiskers twitch, its nose does twitch,

In search of greens, it makes its pitch.

But though it hops with sprightly gait,

Its silence speaks of stealthy fate.

What am I?
